MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Tuesday did not rule out the possibility of another eruption over Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Islands following a heightened seismic activity.
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Volcano logy and Seismology on Tuesday did not rule out the possibility of another eruption over Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Islands following a heightened seismic activity.Phivolcs Director Teresito 'Toto'' Bacolcol, however, clarified that if there would be another eruption, it would not be necessarily strong 'although it is always possible.
'Volcano-tectonic earthquakes are generated by rock fracturing processes and the increase in VT activity may possibly precede eruptive activity,' Bacolcol warned.Phivolcs issued a notice on the volcano's behavior due to its elevated sulphur dioxide gas emission.It said that the current monitoring parameters warned of shallow magmatic processes beneath the volcano.Asked about the chances of raising its alert status in the coming days, Bacolcol said it would be likely.
