Kaley Cuoco needed some help from the OrphanBlack team to handle all TheFlightAttendant season 2's Cassie clones 👀 '[W]e did the same sort of thing. I’ve never seen or done anything like this... [Y]ou know who I don’t want to work with again? Me.' 🤣
Kaley Cuoco describes what the process of working with clones of herself is like on The Flight Attendant season 2. Developed by Steve Yockey and starring Cuoco, Michiel Huismann, and Zosia Mamet, The Flight Attendant premiered on HBO Max in 2020 and was an immediate success with very strong reviews. It was therefore renewed for season 2 only a month after it aired.
In season 1, Cuoco’s hard-partying flight attendant Cassie Bowden gets herself in a whole heap of trouble when, after wooing a passenger on a flight to Bangkok, she wakes up next to his murdered corpse in a hotel room. She then becomes embroiled in not only the mystery of his killing, but an international conspiracy involving the CIA.
Our team had many meetings with the team behind Orphan Black, because we did the same sort of thing. I’ve never seen or done anything like this. I had many body doubles. Many girls that worked against me and acted against me. Literally walk on Warner Bros. and you’d see so many of me walking around. They’re like, ‘I just saw you at the coffee.’ And I’m like, ‘No, I’m over in my trailer.’ There were too many Cassies at Warner Bros. [...
However much it may have confused her, it definitely seems as if the production team thought that Cuoco could handle the job, as showrunners Yockey and Natalie Chaidez were quick to praise her performance. Speaking at the premiere, Yockey described how Cuoco kept the process fun while still delivering on the acting challenge. This seems par for the course for The Flight Attendant, since critics who praised season 1 pointed to Cuoco’s eminently watchable performance as a definite highlight.
For fans of the show, this is great news. The Flight Attendant season 1 was a fun watch, often because it allowed itself to blend the real and the imaginary, with Cassie frequently interacting with dead people in her mind. Combined with a delightfully fast-paced visual style and a big production budget, it made for fantastic evening entertainment.
