In a letter dated Oct. 10, Mabe cites Musgraves’ previous wins and also lays out why she believes the committee’s decision is wrong in a follow-up to an undated conversation she says she had with Mason. According to the description for eligibility for best country album, the album must contain “51% playing time of new country recordings.” Though rejected by the country committee, the album is eligible for album of the year and has also been accepted by the pop screening committee for pop album of the year. which won Country Album of the Year in 2019.
