Senator JV Ejercito on Monday suggested putting up another air traffic management system in Cebu to serve as a back-up mechanism in case another incident of supposed technical malfunction happens.

"Kailangan dito sa air traffic management system may tinatawag na redundancy. Kumbaga, dalawang system dapat 'yan parehong sabay na nag-ooperate," Ejercito said in an interview on Dobol B TV.

"Halimbawa, isa sa [Ninoy Aquino International Airport] sa Manila, yung isa, halimbawa, nasa Cebu para kung sakaling mag-fail-- just like what happened dito sa atin nung January 1 na nag-fail 'yung buong system-- kaya pong saluhin ng second system at siya po ay gumagawana rin," he added.Just like what happened last New Year's Day, Ejercito pointed out that starting up the air traffic management system will take time.

"It will take time to start up a system... Kailangan po redundant, dalawa po silang tumatakbo at the same time," he said., and some 56,000 passengers at NAIA were affected.
