WOODLAND – Jury selection is over for a competency trial involving a former UC Davis student accused of embarking on a stabbing rampage that left two people dead while injuring a third victim.
On Monday, Dominguez walked into the courtroom with his hair covering his face as he casts his eyes down.The state believes the defendant is competent to stand trial.It appears Dominguez underwent evaluations from two forensic psychologists, including a court-appointed doctor. Legal experts say the threshold for competency is low, essentially because everyone is presumed competent. In recent weeks, the Davis community anxiously followed the discussion around Dominguez's competency.
"You have a right to understand what's going on in the courtroom," said Dr. Dana Anderson, a forensic psychologist."You need to be able to work with your attorney in a rational way."
