Debby Dutton, 50, wrote she was embarrassed by her actions but felt the victim was “dishonest.”
SAN FRANCISCO — A Texas woman who pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge for pushing a flight attendant who was asking her husband to wear a mask has received a one-year federal supervised release term, records show.
Debby Dutton, 50, of Cypress, Texas, was charged last year with assaulting the flight attendant on a June 29, 2021 flight from Alaska to San Francisco, where Dutton and her family were planning to spend a brief layover before catching a flight home. Dutton confronted the attendant who woke up Dutton’s husband to ask him to cover his face with a mask.
“The stewardess said to me: how? and I touched her to show her how ,” Dutton wrote. “After that moment she started to yell that why did I push her, I immediately said I was sorry, but she got so agitated, that I think that she knew how to act. I returned to my seat, very scared, crying because of what had happened, terrified, for just having touched her and the stewardess’s drama.”
Dutton added that she had a panic attack and that she was handcuffed by “a huge number of police officers” when the flight landed. She added: “how can a person cause so much harm with lies, enough to ruin someone’s life, that is how I have felt. I respect the work of stewardesses, a lot, but I also think that she has been dishonest with these charges.”
