A federal judge declared a mistrial Thursday in the bribery prosecution of former Los Angeles deputy mayor Raymond Chan after, doctors confirmed his attorney needs months to recover from a recent hospitalization.
Braun, 80, one of the city’s best-known criminal defense attorneys, spent more than two years preparing for Chan’s highly complex trial.After reviewing medical information about Braun that was filed under seal, Walter said it was clear that he could not resume trial work until at least August or September.
