BREAKING: A judge issued a 20-page ruling stopping a 2023 Utah bill that restricts clinics from offering abortions from going into effect as law on Wednesday.
SALT LAKE CITY — Judge Andrew Stone issued a 20-page ruling on Tuesday stopping a 2023 Utah bill that restricts clinics from offering abortions from going into effect as law on Wednesday.that require abortions before 18 weeks to be performed in a hospital, prohibit abortion clinics from providing abortions and eliminate abortion clinics as a license category.
Stone said the bill banning clinics from performing abortions places a burden on licensed abortion clinics, including three owned by Planned Parenthood, by criminalizing abortions performed there. Stone also said that Planned Parenthood is likely to succeed in its arguments in the lawsuit against the clinic ban "because the classifications established under the clinic ban are not reasonable and appear to directly and discriminatorily target the plaintiff."

The organization argues the ban signed into law earlier this year will effectively end access to abortion in Utah. The ruling in the fight over lawmakers’ latest effort to restrict abortions comes less than a year after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

In a ruling published on Saturday, a Utah judge said attorneys for Paltrow and Terry Sanderson had agreed to drop the matter of Paltrow's attorneys' fees.
