Josh Shapiro at Broad Street MarketHARRISBURG - Josh Shapiro, the front-running Democratic candidate for governor of Pennsylvania, capped the first half of a statewide Election Week bus tour with a slickly-staged rally in Midtown Harrisburg where he tried to reclaim the freedom banner in this race.
“It’s not freedom to tell our children what books they’re allowed to read in school,” the Attorney General said, referring to Mastriano’s pledges to ban critical race theory and require on-line posting of all curriculum that some see as a smokescreen for top-down censorship in education.But the worst, Shapiro said, would come if Mastriano is elected and takes control of the levers of the state’s elections through Pennsylvania’s Department of State.
who raised a variety of objections to election administration but also made a batch of mistaken claims of fraud. For all the threats he said Mastriano poses, Shapiro - in words that echoed pre-election appeals from Biden earlier this week - said he’s optimistic that ordinary Pennsylvanians are up to the challenges this election poses.
The last time that political feat was achieved was 1946, when the Republican Party was in the midst of reeling off four straight gubernatorial wins from 1938 to 1950.
