Arizona Diamondbacks lefty Jordan Montgomery parted ways with Scott Boras following a slow-moving free agency.
Montgomery, 31, is making $25 million on his one-year contract with the Diamondbacks, though it was widely anticipated that he'd be able to lock down a long-term deal—potentially worth more than $100 million over five seasons—in free agency. Montgomery has a player option in his deal with Arizona for the 2025 season, which could be worth as much as $25 million if he makes 23 or more starts this year.
The left-hander wasn't the only Boras client to endure an interminable free agency. Nicknamed the"Boras Four," Montgomery, along with Cody Bellinger, Matt Chapman and Blake Snell, all did not sign new contracts in free agency until close to Opening Day, and all signed for significantly less money or shorter-term deals than originally anticipated.
Montgomery has yet to make a start for the Diamondbacks thus far into the season. He's coming off a strong 2023 campaign that saw him win the World Series with the Texas Rangers after being acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals midseason. In total, he made 32 starts with a 3.20 ERA and 166 strikeouts. The Auburn Tigers need to watch out for these two Yale stars
