A national survey conducted by Nanos Research reveals that over 90 per cent of Canadians feel gardening improves their quality of life, as well as their physical and mental health
During the pandemic, Canadians gained a great appreciation for gardening. In 2020, the council commissioned Nanos Research to conduct a survey which revealed Canadians’ growing passion for gardening. The survey revealed that over 90 per cent of Canadians feel gardening improves their quality of life, as well as their physical and mental health. Approximately 87 per cent of Canadians expected to spend the same or more time gardening compared to the previous year.
To highlight individuals and events that have contributed to our country’s garden culture over the past century, the council has created a virtual collection of “Canada’s 100 Garden Moments.” “Our second goal is to celebrate our vibrant garden culture of today, one that’s very much alive,” says Gauthier. “The garden is ever-changing and adaptive. My grandmother’s garden was very much about flowers. Today, there’s more focus on edible gardening.”“People have their gardens on the balcony now. Because we had to spend so much time in the house because of COVID, we brought plants indoors. Everywhere I look now, I see beautiful plants. I water them, spend time with them.
