The real question is how did the Jets get into this predicament in the first place? And the question isn’t being posed by only the fans. Sunday, in real time, it was being posed by the greatest player in franchise history.

But while it’s easy to sit here and blame Wilson for not being good enough, it’s unfair for him to shoulder all the blame. Wilson should have never been in this position in the first place. “Those who live in hope, die in s---,” Saleh said in August. The Jets lived in hope, thinking that Wilson had somehow become a completely different quarterback and person after a few months working alongside Rodgers. And on Sunday … well, we all saw what happened against the Patriots.But it’s not just the big picture that’s a concern regarding the coaching staff.

Wilson didn’t get into specifics, other than to say that he felt the Jets “straight up” didn’t do enough to exploit the Patriots’ lack of cornerback depth. But Wilson did hint that the Jets’ conservative play calling was an issue on the sideline — where both Wilson and running back Michael Carter were caught in heated exchanges with assistants on the CBS broadcast.
