“But there’s lots of good candidates out there,” Nill said. “Unfortunately, a lot of good guys got released from their teams this spring. On the good side, a lot of great candidates for us moving forward. We’ll take our time. I think we’re a great destination for the next head coach, whoever it is.” If the Stars choose to go with an experienced head coach, other candidates could be former Golden Knights coach Peter DeBoer and former Islanders coach Barry Trotz.
“This isn’t something that when the season ends, you sit down and say ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ an hour later,” Nill said. “This is something he’s been thinking about it for a while. I think he’s been thinking about it ever since coming out of the bubble and that following season. It’s something as an organization, we’re thinking about ‘What’s the next step?’”
Vegas offers similar NHL resources but lacks depth in its prospect pool. Chicago, Detroit and Philadelphia are rebuilding.
