Jets rookie cornerback Brandin Echols made a big play against Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady during the game Sunday and then got his autograph after it.

It was a big play as it appeared the Buccaneers might be able to cut into the Jets’ lead before halftime. Echols picked off a pass intended for Mike Evans with 28 seconds left and returned it 30 yards to the Jets’ 48. It was Echols’ second interception in three weeks.

The Jets were able to convert Echols’ takeaway into an Eddy Pineiro 51-yard field goal to take a 17-10 lead into halftime. The Fox cameras captured Echols seeking Brady out on the field after the game to get the interception ball signed. Brady appeared to graciously agree and give Echols a keepsake.

Brandin Echols asked Tom Brady to sign the ball that he intercepted off of him after the Jets’ 28-24 loss to the Bucs. The play by Echols was one of several big plays by Jets rookies in the loss. Fellow cornerback Michael Carter II had a third-down sack of Brady in the second quarter. Running back Michael Carter had a 55-yard run on the Jets’ first drive before exiting the game with a concussion a short time later.

“Defensively, we held up. Did a lot of great things,” Jets coach Robert Saleh said. “A lot of young guys made a lot of great plays. There were a lot of things that I thought were fantastic from our group against a championship football team.”
