Josh Brown has been an avid outdoorsman since he was 5 years old. Originally from Portland, Oregon, the United States airman was relocated to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in 2017.
According to its website, the ITI is the world’s longest-running winter ultra-marathon, which gives racers 30 days to complete the nearly 1,000-mile historic trail either on foot, skis or fat tire bike. The invitational draws in athletes from across the world who are interested in challenging themselves to trek through some of the toughest conditions on the planet.Race Director Kyle Durand has competed in it four times — completing the 350 three times and once biking the 1,000 miler.
“A lot of the courses that we teach we talk about the importance of resilience and I think for you to talk about it is one thing, but to actually go out and test yourself is more important,” Brown said. “I think for me it’s more of experiencing life when it’s not perfect and being able to overcome the obstacles that are thrown at us.”
