) is in advanced talks to invest in Mexican used car platform Kavak and financial technology firm Konfio, several people familiar with the matter said, underscoring the company’s interest in Mexico as it pours money into Latin America.
Talks have also progressed with Konfio, which helps small businesses secure loans, two of the people said. Since announcing a $5 billion Innovation Fund focused on Latin America in March, SoftBank has widely scouted Mexican startups. Speaking at a conference in the capital in May, SoftBank Investment Partner Shu Nyatta described Konfio as a startup helping small companies shut out of traditional banking.SoftBank made its first known investment in Mexico earlier this year in payments firm Clip, plunking down about $20 million.
