James Gunn has taken to Twitter to ask DC fans if Superman's costume should have trunks in Superman: Legacy. One of the earliest announcements to come from James Gunn after he and Peter Safran became co-CEOs of DC Studios was that a Superman reboot was coming. They decided not to bring Henry Cavill back as the Man of Steel as Gunn began writing a new solo movie featuring a younger version of Clark Kent.

The Superman trunks poll from James Gunn comes as the topic has once again sparked a discussion within the DC community. It began after Gunn liked a tweet from someone asking for Superman's DCU costume to have trunks. While he has since said that Superman's costume having trunks will not be decided by a Twitter poll, the majority of people have voted in favor of the red underwear returning to live-action - and some strong reactions have surfaced as a result.
James Gunn might not have yet decided if the DCU's Superman costume will have trunks, but he might have tipped his hand. Liking the tweet could have been an innocent act by the DC Studios co-CEO that means nothing in the larger picture. However, he and Safran did tease that the DCU's Superman in Superman: Legacy represents kindness in a world that thinks kindness is old-fashioned.
That said, there is always a chance that James Gunn does not fully commit to Superman's trunks being part of his DCU costume. Superman: Legacy will begin at a point where Clark has already been Superman. The trunks could be referenced or shown in a flashback, giving DC comic fans a glimpse of a more iconic looking suit, but still allow a more modern design to be the main suit for the DCU.
