Cameron’s sci-fi mystery movie The Abyss tells the story of a lost American submarine and the SEAL team sent to retrieve it. After the movie's initial release, the LaserDisc Special Edition Box Set came out in April 1993, with the VHS Special Edition later released in August 1996. This extended cut features greater conflict between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, increased tension between Bud and Lindsey, and a larger threat from the alien-created mega-tsunamis.
Where To Watch The Abyss Special Edition While viewers can find this practical joke in isolation on YouTube, it’s not the same as catching the Easter egg during a viewing of The Abyss. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to procure the film for regular viewing. The Abyss isn't streaming on any major streaming service in the U.S. Amazon states that the film is not available in this location, and it's not currently offered on Vudu, Netflix, or GooglePlay.
Fortunately, there's still hope for viewers who want to see the beach Easter egg in the context of the rest of The Abyss. They'll have to purchase a hard copy of the film on VHS or DVD. There currently are listings for the Special Edition of the movie on Walmart, Etsy, and eBay. Depending on the seller, these copies of the film cost anywhere from $25 to $35.
