MANILA, Philippines — Jaja Santiago is now a Japanese citizen.
The former Philippine women's national team standout shared in an Instagram post on Saturday, August 17 that she has completed the naturalization process and gained Japanese citizenship. Santiago , who now carries the name Minowa Sachi , will always be a Filipina, though, she said.'Now that I have already obtained my Japanese citizenship, in my heart, blood, mind, and soul, I am always a Filipina who was born in the Philippines.
Sachi, whose husband Taka coaches the Akari Chargers in the Premier Volleyball League , formerly played for Ageo Medics in 2018-19 and 2022-2023 seasons.'Changing one's nationality is not an easy decision. It requires many sacrifices to achieve your dream. There are people who will support you, but there are also those who may not understand your decision,' Santiago started her Instagram post.
