We chat with NationalTreasureEdgeofHistory star Jacob Vargas about what's in store for the rest of the season and his history with Catherine Zeta-Jones:
National Treasure: Edge of History is set in the same universe as the National Treasure movies, only it takes place fifteen years later. The series follows Jess, a brilliant young woman living in Baton Rouge with a mind for puzzles. When she discovers that everything she knew about her parents may be a lie, she and her friends set off on a quest to find a lost treasure and answers about her family's legacy.
And then after we wrap the scene, we finally got to see each other. We just kind of hug each other, and there are tears. There's really nice. It's a really nice moment. Jacob Vargas: I mean, it's definitely a fresh take. I don't think it attempts to replace the National Treasure film; I think it's a great companion piece to it. I feel like multiple stories can take place in the same universe; in the same world. I love that it takes place like 20 years later, and the technology is changing.
In a way this character and these scenes were a bit cathartic for me, where I was able to really explore that. And there were a lot of tears and some pain in there. But I felt like it was a good kind of a healing process. Speaking of Billie, I love Catherine Zeta-Jones. I think she's so phenomenal in this and everything else she's in. Can you talk a little bit about working with her on this?
Jacob Vargas: To me, Rafael is at the heart of protector. What we're slowly realizing, as we watch the show, is that there are people trying to find this treasure who are very dangerous. You start to unravel [things] and realize that Jess' life is in danger. His main goal is to protect her and protect the treasure.
Jacob Vargas: That would be amazing. Yeah, that'd be a dream come true to blend both worlds and have Mr. Cage come and play with us. It would be great; it'd be amazing. Was there anything that surprised you when you were playing Raphael that you didn't necessarily expect from reading the script?
