The full list of grant recipients and the amounts they will receive is to be posted.

The funded programs address issues ranging from homelessness and workforce preparation to health care, mental health and supporting the disabled population, according to vice chairwoman Beth Mixson. Chairman Bob Baldwin was out of town.The process is "always a challenge because the needs of our community are so great," Mixson said, while"funding is limited." But the"nonprofits that serve our community are excellent," she said.

After the council approved a preliminary funding list Nov. 4, four applicants filed appeals. The appeals were heard in an earlier meeting Tuesday, but the list remained unchanged, Mixson said.Fire Watch:
