J'Ouvert festivities kicked off early this morning ahead of the West Indian Day Parade celebrating Caribbean culture in Brooklyn. JohnBDias reports:

It's followed by the West Indian Day Parade, which is back for the first time since the pandemic began.

"We started planning for this dance a year ago, because Carnival is an annual thing. So in order to get the presentation and to source the material and to do your research," lead costume designer Kandell Julien told CBS2. Marilyn Gaymes told CBS2 more than 100 men and women in her group will wear outfits inspired by Afro-Brazilian culture.
