UPDATE | Franklin Hall will be closed until at least Wednesday after residents were evacuated from the building due to a person in the Bloomington sewers possibly armed with a gun. Police are still at the scene.
BLOOMINGTON — Bloomington and Indiana University police are searching the city's sewer system for a possible person armed with a gun who entered the sewer system near the university campus.
Residents of Franklin Hall will be closed until Wednesday after residents evacuated from the building. Everyone else is being urged to avoid the area, IU Bloomington Tweeted.IUB Alert! An armed subject has been reported entering the storm drain off campus near 1st and Walnut. Avoid the area around Dunn Meadow near Indiana Ave.
Bloomington police say people should avoid First Street to Third Street and Morton Street to Lincoln Street. Officers are actively searching the sewers for the suspect."We are working with Utilities to determine the underground sewer tunnels that a person could fit in," the department tweeted.
