President Biden’s new budget plan doesn’t come close to solving the national debt challenge. Republicans are right about that much. Biden’s plan would reduce expected deficits by $3 trillion over the next decade, less than half what’s needed to even stabilize the debt as a share of our economic output.

So why are Republicans trying to snuff out even that small measure of progress by flatly rejecting tax increases on the rich?
