DES MOINES — A technical meltdown in Iowa Monday night has set off bedlam among the campaigns and provided grist to those hoping to cast doubt over the first contest of the 2020 primary campaign.
“We found inconsistencies in the reporting of three sets of results. In addition to the tech systems being used to tabulate results, we are also using photos of results and a paper trail to validate that all results match and ensure that we have confidence and accuracy in the numbers we report,” Iowa Democratic Party spokeswoman Mandy McClure said. “This is simply a reporting issue, the app did not go down and this is not a hack or an intrusion.

"The underlying data and paper trail is sound and will simply take time to further report the results." The delay in results cast a cloud over the process, after more than year of campaigning in the run-up to the caucuses.
"You probably heard we don't know the results. But I did not want to let another minute go by without thanking all of you," she said. "We know there's delays but we know one thing: We are punching above our weight." The specter of the Republican president has hung heavily over Iowa, where activists canvassed neighborhoods and strung balloons for campaign parties Monday even as Trump’s impeachment trial unfolded live on TV.
At least four candidates — possibly five — are likely to be viable heading out of the state. And Michael Bloomberg, who is not campaigning in Iowa, will confront them immediately after the first four nominating states. The former New York mayor climbed to 14 percent support nationally in a Morning Consult poll released on Monday, tying Warren for third.
