It is uncertain if Aurora officials can cancel the Pride Parade, or if that can be done solely by the mayor or the full City Council, as the issue of what police can wear during the parade continues.

The statement said while Aurora police have done a great job providing security at past Pride Parades - and that it’s unfair to paint all law enforcement with a broad brush - it is the organization’s responsibility “to provide the most welcoming environment possible for the largest number of participants we can.”The organization suggested police march wearing T-shirts, or a “soft uniform,” such as polo shirts with a logo, carrying signs or banners. But they said they did not want full uniforms.
But on Friday, Irvin issued another statement saying he is “still disheartened and deeply disappointed.” When the first Pride Parade took place in 2018, the city’s process included approval by a City Council committee that approved all parade permits. Since then, the process has changed.
