The Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza closed shortly after it had opened Saturday morning to allow trucks carrying humanitarian aid to enter the enclave, which has been cut off from deliveries of food and other essentials since Hamas militants attacked Israel on Oct. 7. Egyptian officials said 20 trucks filled with mostly medical supplies and a limited amount of food crossed into Gaza.
The World Health Organization said it sent four trucks carrying trauma medicine and equipment to treat as many as 1,200 injured people, as well as medication for 1,500 patients with chronic illnesses. The WHO said it also provided basic essential medicine and health supplies for 300,000 people for three months. “The supplies currently heading into Gaza will barely begin to address the escalating health needs as hostilities continue to grow,” the WHO said.
