Israel's military massed troops on the border with Gaza as airstrikes pummeled the Palestinian enclave in the wake of Saturday's attack by Hamas.
Some of the jet fighters the Biden administration ordered to defend Israel and deter further attacks arrived in the region Thursday, the Pentagon announced. A squadron of A-10 ground attack planes based at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona will be stationed at al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, defense officials said.
Shortly after Hamas attacked Israel on Saturday, the U.S. announced that it was sending jet fighters to the region as a show of support for Israel and a bid to deter groups, like Lebanese Hezbollah, from launching attacks on Israel's northern border. All the additional squadrons ordered to the Middle East last week are expected to be in place by next week, defense officials said.
