The Republic of Ireland is set to recognize the state of Palestine in a matter of weeks. Irish Foreign Minister Micheal Martin announced during a debate on the formation of a new cabinet on Tuesday (April 9, 2024) evening that the delay in recognizing Palestine is no longer justified. He stated that Ireland has been in discussions with several European countries involved in the peace process in the Gaza Strip. 'The legal recognition of Palestine in international discussions is already complete. There is no doubt that recognition of the state of Palestine will happen,' said Martin. Ireland and several EU member states will announce their official recognition of Palestine shortly after the peace process progresses in the near future.

Kejahatan perang sudah terjadi dan kami mengecam pengeboman terhadap rakyat di Jalur Gaza,” kata Martin.
Pengakuan tersebut, menurut Menlu Irlandia, akan diumumkan bersamaan dengan inisiatif perdamaian multilateral untuk mengakhiri perang di Jalur Gaza. Menlu Irlandia sudah berunding dengan Menlu Jordania, Mesir, dan Arab Saudi. Perundingan menggagas, pengakuan tersebut juga dilakukan dengan negara Uni Eropa, seperti Slovenia, Malta, dan Belgia.
Pada pertemuan Uni Eropa di Brussels, Belgia, Februari 2024, PM Irlandia Leo Varadkar bersama PM Spanyol, Slovenia, dan Malta dalam keterangan bersama mengatakan kesiapan mengakui negara Palestina jika memberikan sumbangan positif dalam upaya perdamaian dan situasinya sudah tepat.
