Una corte iraní condenó a dos reporteras a hasta siete años de prisión por colaborar con el gobierno de Estados Unidos, entre otros cargos, según medios locales.
Ambas llevaban más de un año encarceladas por su cobertura de la muerte de Mahsa Amini bajo custodia policial en septiembre de 2022. La sentencia preliminar podía apelarse en un plazo de 20 días.
La oficina del enviado especial de Estados Unidos en Irán condenó las sentencias en la plataforma X, antes conocida como Twitter, y dijo: “Niloufar y Elaheh nunca debieron ser encarceladas y condenamos sus sentencias”. “El régimen iraní encarcela a periodistas porque teme la verdad”, agregó. Naciones Unidas les concedió en mayo su principal premio a la libertad de prensa “por su compromiso con la verdad y la responsabilidad”.
