After back-to-back losses in pay-per-view main events, Mario Barrios decided to leave trainer Virgil Hunter, move his camp out of the San Francisco Bay area and find new pastures.
And for every fighter, the day comes when they know it’s time to hang up the gloves.
“Making the move out there was something I had to do for my career,” said Barrios last week. “The next few years are the most important, this is when I’m hitting my prime. Years ago I promised San Antonio a world title and I did that. The goal remains the same now that I’m at welterweight. I feel like being in Las Vegas will get me the best work out there and I think I will accomplish a lot these next few years.
“It felt surreal and it’s something you dream about but you don’t think it’s ever going to happen,” said Selina Barrios. “I was a little nervous. It was a really amazing feeling.”
