President Michael Sticka speaks about new Latin music exhibits, boosting tourism and philanthropy
The Recording Academy's Grammy Museum in Los Angeles has awarded $7.5 million in grants to more than 400 recipients since 2008. This year, the museum gave $200,000 to a variety of music-related programs including , a rare neurological condition that prevents people from deriving pleasure.
“We focus on telling the story of music,” says museum president Michael Sticka, who previously worked as its executive director. Those stories will now have a more global sensibility. A new three-year partnership with the Latin Recording Academy will expand the Grammy Museum’s Latin oriented exhibits and educational programs, and will be run by the museum’s first Latin music curator.
Your latest round of grants are for music research and sound preservation. Why are those studies important for the Grammy Museum? The residential school system all but wiped out many Indigenous languages. What you have in place for the preservation of indigenous music?
