Alexa and Julian Rodarte open a new Japanese restaurant at Dallas' Trinity Groves. The black-and-white decor is wow-worthy.
Julian says of Temakeria: “This menu has been burning in my back pocket for years.”
This wall was a window when vegan restaurant V-Eats was open in Trinity Groves. To maximize the seating area, crews removed the window during construction. Artist Jonathan Freeman, known in the art community as Jonathan Krown, drew a view of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge on the blank wall — which is what customers would see if the window were still there.
A meal here might start with edamame , shishito peppers , poke nachos or lobster karaage . The menu offers two options for ramen: tonkotsu with pork belly and wood ear mushrooms or miso with ground pork, bamboo shoots and miso corn . The stars are the 15 temaki that include yellowtail with serrano , salmon with miso tamari and cucumber with sesame . Each one is about three bites.Among the several desserts, the chef is proud of the tofu crème brûlée.
Trinity Groves has always had a generous front patio, and in 2021, Romano expanded the outdoor space by. Temakeria is the only restaurant with an enclosed patio. It’s also the only temperature-controlled patio, and Alexa hopes it’s a comfortable spot in any weather for drinking cocktails and eating raw fish. For more food news, follow Sarah Blaskovich on Twitter at
