Health officials in New York City and Los Angeles County are again urging face masking in indoor public spaces and crowded outdoor situations as the number of COVID-19 and flu cases increase.
“The holiday season is about togetherness and there is a way to gather safely – even as respiratory viruses in our city are unusually high,” Vasan said in a“Vaccination and boosters are critical but so are common sense precautions like masking when indoors or among crowds and staying home if you don’t feel well.”
Other counties in the NYC metro area also moved into the high community level. State officials have also urged masking in the state’s public school system. The L.A. County Public Health Department issued an indoor mask recommendation as the county recorded 258 cases per 100,000 people and almost 15 hospital admissions per 100,000 people, moving it from the medium into the high community level. An indoor mask mandate is possible in the coming weeks, health officials have said.“At the current case rate, if you attend a party with 200 people, the chance that at least one person at the party is infected with COVID, is between 80-90%.
