Big Bend National Park in has closed some trailheads due to 'increased bear activity'
"We've closed off sites 48 and 60 to protect both humans and bears," park officials wrote in the online post."The campsites will reopen when the mesquite pods are gone."The trailheads for the Window Trail in the Basin Campground and Basin Group Campground are closed until further notice, the park's website says. However, the Window Trail remains open and can be accessed from the main trailhead in the Chisos Basin.
On Thursday, Big Bend added additional closures. The Chisos Basin Campground and the Chisos Basin Group Campground will be closed down on Friday and will reopen once the bears have moved on, the park added. "We want to make sure these bears continue to eat only natural foods, rather than discovering garbage or improperly-stored human food, which would have long-lasting and potentially fatal consequences for them," the park wrote in a social media post.
