They’ll try as well as they can to keep in touch, of course. But a trade deadline deal is a bit like moving away after high school. You can still text your friends or meet up in the off-season. But you’ll never share a clubhouse again, play chess next to your lockers or chat for the duration of a cross-country flight.

That time, Rojas had no idea it was coming. This time, he expected it.Preparation, though, doesn’t make leaving any easier. The last time Rojas was traded, he returned home, just a few miles down the I-10 from where he grew up in Litchfield Park. This time, he’s leaving home.
Even as their playoff odds have dwindled, they’ve felt support from a front office that believes this year’s team can contend. Still, there’s a boost to seeing those words translated into action.
