Currently working in Orinda, Sukanya Goswami will replace the retiring Adam Littlefield.
She was born and raised in India, teaching middle and high school students and then in France before moving to the United States in 1998. She worked in the private sector until 2004, when she was hired as an English teacher at Livermore’s Granada High School. From there she moved on to Newark Memorial High where she remained for 14 years — serving five years as the school’s English department chair and three years as a professional learning community coordinator.
Candidates for the position were interviewed by a 22-member team comprised of teachers, classified staff, students, parents, school board members and members and administrators of the Piedmont Anti-Racism and Diversity Committee and Piedmont Racial Equity Campaign. Goswami lives in Fremont with her husband and two sons. Pending board approval this week, she will assume her role as principal July 1.
