Since fighting broke out in Sudan in mid-April, more than 2.6 million people have fled their homes, with more than 560,000 of them becoming international refugees, UN humanitarians said on Thursday. ManilaBulletin READ:

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs , more than 2.1 million people were internally displaced since April 15, including 1.4 million people who fled the capital Khartoum.

However, humanitarian partners say they are impeded in their work by insecurity and limiting bureaucratic access, including the lack of visas for international non-governmental organization personnel. Partners of the United Nations reported that the looting of 43 humanitarian warehouses has made it challenging to resume and scale-up aid operations.

The World Food Programme said it delivered emergency food and nutrition assistance to more than 1.2 million people in 14 of Sudan's 18 states, including some hard-to-reach areas in Darfur.
