A 1972 memorial honoring Granada Hills’ Vietnam War dead will be a gathering spot on Nov. 11 for those who didn’t want to turn their backs on men drafted into war.

A few of the old 4-H club kids who got the ball rolling in 1972 for the Veteran’s Park in Granada Hills – the traffic island at Chatsworth St. and Zelzah Ave. On Veteran’s Day, they’ll be opening a time capsule they buried at the foot of the memorial 51 years ago. The kids in the 4-H club were looking for a community service project that year, and their eyes fell on a sliver of land — a small traffic island covered in weeds — an eyesore in the middle of Granada Hills.
