Electric cars and trucks are great, but if we think they will save us from the onrushing climate emergency, we are deluding ourselves.
adds, “Cars need roads to drive on. This much is obvious. But what’s less obvious is the extent to which roads dictate how our built environment is constructed. In short, we’ve created a world that’s built around cars first, with people, the environment, natural wildlife, the atmosphere, and practically everything else second.
We will need to adjust our thinking in a variety of areas, one of them being that everything will be hunky dory if we all start driving electric cars that run on electricity from renewable sources like wind, solar, or moonbeams. That’s a beautiful fiction that could well be the death of us.
