This dress doesn't ride up, and actually provides more breeze and movement than you'd expect. 👗
Now that temperatures are soaring well above 90 degrees, the age-old question of "What does one wear in this type of heat?" is back and lingering. But whenever someone asks, I share what has been my proudest fashion discovery: the perfect dress style to beat the heat but still look stylish.
Years ago, when I was a junior editor, a friend forced me into trying a flowy midlength number by Rebecca Taylor. It was light blue, with a feather print all over the chiffon fabric. It had three-quarter-length sleeves, a nip at the waist, and a slight asymmetrical hem that—and this is crucial—sat somewhere between the knee and the ankle, slightly longer than the traditional midi.
You might think that less is more when it comes to summer dressing—less fabric, less skirt, etc. But I've found that this length actually provides more breeze and movement, and prevents uncomfortable sweat and sticking; plus, you don't have to worry about your dress riding up, or having sweaty limbs stick every time you sit down. You don't need to overembellish, either: Add sneakers for daytime, flat sandals for work, or heels for an evening out.
