In response, the Nampa School District Board has decided that moving to a four-day school week might aid in teacher retention and recruitment, as well as overall morale. Fridays will now be an extra planning day for teachers, who in a traditional five-day school week typically prepare lesson plans in their off-time or on weekends.
A survey conducted by the district found that nearly three-quarters of parents, students, and staff said they would prefer the shorter school week, though some parents have voiced concerns over what to do with their students who will now have a day off when most parents are at work. How the district will work with student-athletes, after-school programs, and other extra-curricular activities that have normally taken place on Fridays has not yet been made clear as administrators work to iron out the Fall schedule.
