I teach women how to do their own PR, and it all boils down to confidence
for one simple reason: every day I had hundreds of female founders flooding into my inbox, apologetically pitching their business to me. These emails were peppered with emails from male founders trying to do the same thing - except they weren't apologetic, they didn't view themselves as a nuisance, they felt they were offering me something valuable.
In my sessions we do all sorts of things, from insights into the industry and the different types of coverage, to formulas for creating the perfect pitch email, each is individually tailored to the client. But the one thing that crops up in every single session is confidence.
It's not about being arrogant, and there is a fine line, but often I find it helps clients understand where they have unintentionally allowed self-doubt into their pitch.. If you don't know a bit about the journalist and the publication your emailing it shows. Always address people by name, and give them clear details about why, and how, your brand would work for their publication.Journalist's need PRs, and brand founders. We need you to inform us about products we don't yet know about, stories we haven't heard and help inform our content as someone with their ear to the ground in a certain industry.
