The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has added another trophy to its cabinet: the 2022-2023 Japan Import Car of the Year. A, this marks the first time a Korean automaker has won the title.
Enroute to its JCOTY win, the Ioniq 5 beat out some heavyweight competition including the BMW iX, Land Rover Range Rover, and the Renault Arkana. Jurors said that strong points of the Ioniq 5 included its innovative exterior and interior design as well as its impressive performance and all-electric cruising range . It also received kudos for its full range of comfort and safety equipment, and its V2L capability.
“The Ioniq 5 signals a bold new direction in electric mobility for customers in Japan and around the world. Already the winner of prestigious global awards, including World Car of the Year, to be recognized in Japan is a significant achievement, especially against such strong competition,” said Won Sang Cho, CEO of Hyundai Mobility Japan.
