Hurricane Lee is headed for Canada, but the storms effects will be felt hundreds of miles away on the East Coast.
New Jersey will be spared the brunt of Hurricane Lee, which is forecasted to hit southern New England Saturday afternoon, but heavy surf and life-threatening rip currents persist along the Jersey Shore.In New Jersey, coastal ocean alerts were in effect Saturday morning and expected to last through the evening. A high surf advisory warned of “large breaking waves of up to 8 feet in the surf zone.
Rip currents, rough surf and costal flooding are expected through Sunday from Maryland through Maine, according to AccuWeather.com Further north, Lee’s impact is more apparent. A hurricane watch is in effect for eastern Maine and part of Atlantic Canada. Tropical storms warnings are in place for parts of eastern Massachusetts, including Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.
