Officials in the Bahamas have warned that the death toll could rise with hundreds remaining missing after Hurricane Dorian slammed into the Caribbean islands last Sunday.
: Hundreds of people are missing in the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian tore through the Abaco and Grand Bahama islands last Sunday, while the death toll has reached 30 and is expected to climbOfficials have sent coolers, additional morticians and body bags to the Abacos, the worst hit of the islands, after Dorian made landfall there as a Category 5 hurricane. It tore roofs off buildings, overturned cars and left parts of the island submerged.
The U.S. coast guard has been assisting the Bahamian National Emergency Management Agency and the Royal Bahamian Defense Force in relief efforts, rescuingDorian has weakened to a Category 1 hurricane and continues to advance up the U.S. east coast. At least 270,000 in the Carolinas lost power as the storm swept northwest brushing the coast of North Carolina on Thursday evening.
