Opinion: Huntington Beach housing mandate and NIMBYs: Letters
Re “Huntington Beach’s NIMBY tantrum” :
Where does Mayor Strickland get his notion that “our citizens” don’t want to live in urban communities, as he mandates housing that would turn communities like Huntington Beach into dense urban landscapes like San Francisco and Los Angeles? These goals are exact opposites of most citizens’ dreams of owning a home in a quiet community with local parks, shopping, schooling, etc. His vision, joined by our dominant left-wing Legislature in Sacramento, is to eliminate the suburban character of any city by forced rezoning, replacing it with high-density meccas with no discretion to deny the high-density development. I don’t recall any ballot measure that petitioned the citizenry for such a plan.
