IT’S still some time before the next collegiate sports season tips off in September. But collegiate basketball hostilities are already very intense in two ongoing pre-season basketball tournaments that are keeping the fans ablaze with excitement.
The Filoil EcoOil tournament has 20 teams in its roster, divided into UAAP and NCAA brackets. Participating NCAA schools are the Perpetual Altas, College of St. Benilde Blazers, Lyceum Pirates, Letran Knights, Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, Mapua Cardinals, San Sebastian Golden Stags, San Beda Red Lions, Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals and Arellano Chiefs.
The Blue Eagles are currently atop Group Prime which also includes the Bulldogs, Cardinals, Green Archers, Pirates, Golden Stags, GMC Flying Dragons, Heavy Bombers and the Philippine Christian University Dolphins. Yesterday, in what could be a preview of one of the toughest match-ups in the coming UAAP Season 86, UP and DLSU played in the Filoil EcoOil championship game. The Archers have stayed perfect throughout the eliminations, but UP, with two losses in the elims, powered its way to this highly awaited showdown with La Salle.
