WHAT worse crime is there against children and teenagers than luring and grooming them to be sold as sex slaves to often older men who would abuse these young people to satisfy their lust? This is what child sex trafficking is.
A 2023 study showed that almost half a million Filipino children were trafficked by a quarter-million adult exploiters who made images of them being sexually abused. In fact, one child in every hundred is abused this way. Of all trafficked persons, 27 percent of them are children.This is a heinous crime that happens worldwide, and in the Philippines, the perpetrators are seldom caught and convicted. They risk arrest because the money to be earned is huge.
Research shows that there is more child abuse in foster homes than anywhere else. Strictly supervised professional therapy centers that heal the suffering of child victims of human trafficking are needed in the Philippines. Sadly, there are very few therapeutic healing centers around. Leaving rescued children to suffer without care, healing and justice is unethical and shows a lack of understanding and compassion. If they are sent home, they are likely to be trafficked again after a few weeks.
