30-year-old Flour Shop CEO & cofounder Ross Harrow in the company's store in New York’s Nolita neighborhood.As a music grad student who only ignited his stove by bumping into it, Ross Harrow never imagined his cakes to be the birthday centerpieces for Kardashian kiddies, Ariana Grande and 35,000 others.
“We had so many orders that we could not fill,” says Harrow, who has actually only baked a cake once. “I just did a quick analysis, and I was like, ‘You gotta open a store,’” Harrow dropped out of NYU to do just that, joining the Flour Shop as cofounder and CEO, with Kassem leading the creative and baking.
Today Harrow stands in the rainbow, sparkle and unicorn-spangled singular retail location in New York’s Nolita neighborhood, which opened in November 2017. Thirty-year-old Harrow wears a leather-sleeve baseball jacket and a rainbow patch shirt, styled by his wife-cofounder, of course. “Our brand is about color, it’s about fun, it’s about joy. And yes, it’s about baking. Instagram is the way that we can show how these things are connected and interact with our fans. It’s an amazing tool for younger and Millennial friends that are brand-first.” Says Harrow, also noting that the Flour Shop Instagram account, with nearly 300,000 followers, has never run sponsored content or a paid campaign.
